THE PERMIAN EXPERIENCE

 TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

KEVIN SAUNDERS BIOGRAPHY

Imagine an explosion so incomprehensible, it rips through 2 foot thick concrete and iron in a matter of seconds.  Its incredible force hurls you 300 feet onto sun-scorched pavement.  Your body is broken, bent over at the chest.  You survive the blast, but come out of the coma to discover you're paralyzed.  This is the incredible story of Kevin Saunders.

While working as a federal inspector for the USDA in Corpus Christi, TX, Kevin was injured in a 1981 grain elevator explosion.  The catastrophic blast completely destroyed the building in which Kevin was working, leaving ten co-workers dead.  Kevin was hurled over 300 feet through the air onto a concrete parking lot which left his body broken over at the chest.  Suffering from a fractured skull, broken back, collapsed lungs, and massive internal and external injuries, doctors said he would not survive.  However, through faith, courage, perseverance, and a determination from deep within, he climbed to heights no one ever imagined possible.

He was confronted with tremendous obstacles and challenges but felt compelled to improve himself through continuing education and physical training.  He used the tragedy as a springboard for reaching greater and greater heights.  Kevin has become a world champion wheelchair athlete and gold medalist many times over.  Subsequently, Kevin Saunders became part of our nation's history books by becoming the first person with a disability ever appointed to the President's Council on Physical Fitness, working with Chairman Arnold Schwarzenegger to educate the American people on achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyles.  He was also the only person reappointed by President Clinton.

He also worked with Academy-Award winning director Oliver Stone and Tom Cruise as a principal actor in "Born on the Fourth of July".  His genuine love for people led him to work with various charity organizations such as the United Way and Special Olympics as well as children's hospitals across the nation.  The Kevin Saunders Wheelchair Success Fund provides scholarships to individuals who have become paralyzed.  This fund enables countless numbers of persons confined to wheelchairs to pursue higher education and overcome many of the same adversities that, before, seemed impossible to conquer.

The heart of his message illustrates that it is not what happens to you that matters, but how you respond that makes all the difference.  Kevin lives his motto, "There's Always a Way", every single day.  His book, by the same name, tells how Kevin reached past his pain to find the champion within himself.  Kevin's passion to educate, motivate, and inspire is visible evident through the Let's Roll On USA Tour.  By speaking to numerous audiences including colleges and universities, Fortune 500 companies, and various schools across the nation, Kevin's message will help educate and empower the American people on the essential role of fitness and sports for a balanced, successful life.  Using himself as an example, he seeks to increase your ability to overcome change, face challenges, work towards your optimal fitness level, and develop a truly unstoppable spirit.  Kevin's broken body stands as a silent testimony to this, and beckons others to follow.

Kevin's call is to YOU.  Let him inspire and motivate you on your journey to becoming the best you can be!  Let his message of unbelievable triumph be heard by those you lead.  Take the challenge!  A philosopher once said "Every great example takes hold of us with the authority of a miracle, and says to us, "If you had but faith, you, also, could do the same thing."  Let Kevin show you what it means to be an unstoppable spirit through any kind of adversity!
